East Atlanta Village
Shopping doesn't have to be a back-breaking, fast-paced exercise where you have to shove your way through a crowded mall just to one shop to another. With a more relaxed atmosphere in mind, developers of the East Atlanta Village designed a pedestrian-friendly business district with wider sidewalks, a lot of benches, and even a splattering of greenery. With the East Atlanta Village, shopping is literally a walk in the park.
East Atlanta Village is said to be comparable to the popular shopping and entertainment in Midtown and Virginia-Highland. It has a sizable number of retail shops, commercial offices, restaurants, clubs, galleries, and bazaars. East Atlanta Village is also within walking distance of other local landmarks such as the East Atlanta Branch Library, Grant Park, Zoo Atlanta, and East Lake YMCA. In 2007, the Village was recognized as the Best Neighborhood by Creative Loafing, a weekly publication in Atlanta.
East Atlanta Village is also home to various local entertainment and recreational events. Thursday afternoons from May to November are dedicated to the EAV Farmers Market, a bazaar that features fresh produce, processed goods, and artworks of local artists. The last day of May is allotted for the East Atlanta Beer Festival which features live music, food, local vendors, and a flood of beers of course. Also held in the East Atlanta Village is the annual commemoration of the historic Battle of Atlanta which features exhibits of Civil War memorabilia, a gala dinner, a five-kilometer run, films and art shows, and walking tours. A neighborhood can't have enough festival so we also have the East Atlanta Strut Festival, a charitable event that offers music, arts, and other fun activities. Proceeds will benefit charities as well as small businesses in the community.
